Heartwood carves Miller Beer Girl into Immortality
Miller Park, home to the Milwaukee Brewers, is also a home for Miller Beer. In 2003, when the park opened with a lot of retro elements popular in today's newer purpose built baseball parks, Miller Beer decided to bring back a limited use of the Miller Beer girl at the park to tie in with the theme. Heartwood Carving was commissioned to create and carve a relief of the Miller Beer Girl as master mold for a series of bronze castings used at the park.
Let us share a little background on the Miller Girl (Courtesy of Miller Brewing):
She originally appeared on a piece of artwork as a girl in costume with whip in hand standing on a box. Legend has it she may have been an equestrian circus performer. Miller Brewing Company used this image of the girl standing on a Miller beer crate to roll out High Life in 1903. She remained standing upright on the box until 1907 when A. C. Paul, who was in the marketing department at Miller, became lost while wandering in the north woods. While under the stars he had a dream or vision of the "Girl in the Moon" with her outstretched arm holding a High Life and pointing to safety or civilization. The Girl in the Moon is still on Miller High Life packaging today, 100 years later.
