How It Works | Restoration

Step 1: Get a Quote

Send us your best estimate on the quantity, dimensions and preferred wood type by e-mail.  Include any available photos so that we may accurately estimate the design time required.  If you don't have photos a sketch will do.  Please tell us if you are seeking a reproduction that is as exact as possible or work that is simply evocative of the original as this will affect design costs and what type of source material we require.  You can also call us with questions about your potential project at 541-868-0666.

Step 2: Confirm the details

Upon approval of the quote we will confirm all the final details of quantity, dimension, wood type etc. and ask for the best source material for your project if you haven't provided it already.  What source material is best?  There are several options available of what to send for the reproduction of your woodwork:

1. Mail Original:
This is the best option for reproducing accurately.  When sending the original piece we are able to get excellent similarity to the original either by scanning it to create a digital 3d model or by having our designers create a model based on the piece in hand.  Ship originals to:

Heartwood Carving, Inc.
4259 West 5th Avenue
Eugene, OR, 97402

2. Photos:  This is the second best option for accuracy and best option for faster turn around time.  We prefer multiple angles in good light so that we can have as much visual information on the piece as possible.  We take the measurements you provide and create a 3D computer model to then manufacture.

3. Sketches:  Though it is not an exact duplication we have successfully recreated vintage pieces this way.  Our designers use your description and their knowledge of carving to flesh out a 2D image into a 3D Model.

Step 3: Design and Approval

Once the digital 3D model is complete we will send multiple views of the model for your approval.  Any necessary changes can be made to the model before the project is milled.  Revised renderings are then sent for approval.   You may also order a carved sample before approving the production of a multiple piece order.

Step 4: Manufacture

Once approved the recreation of your piece(s) begin.  Most projects take approximately 2 weeks (longer for larger or more complex orders) for our facility to manufacture, clean (light sanding), and carefully package it for shipping.  Staining and finishing options are available at an additional cost.
